Good afternoon, Tuckahoe friends!
Lots going on over the past month in Henrico County! We had a recent Tuckahoe Talk in mid-January; and in case you can't (or don't want to) watch the entire January Tuckahoe Talk, here are a few "highlights" from January and a few upcoming events in February and March.
1) Richmond Water Issue-To completely over simplify the issue, there are multiple pipes sending water from the Richmond City water treatment plant to the Henrico County water system. When the Richmond facility failed in early January, there was not enough water (and pressure) to supply water to all Henrico Counties residents. Therefore, many of our residents in Varina were without water for several days until the Richmond water treatment plant came back on-line. Henrico County is doing its own assessment of the incident and will release a report allowing us to begin addressing a number of the short and long term issues. This report should be public in the next few weeks and I will be addressing the findings in greater detail at the next "Tuckahoe Talk" in March.
2) Legislative Session in Richmond- This is considered a "short" session (46 days) in downtown Richmond; however, there are several bills we are closely tracking in Henrico (Recovery Homes, Gambling, Land Use, etc). I have spent several days down at the capitol and I encourage everyone to do the same. There is nothing like having a first hand experience of our government in action!
3) Tuckahoe Talk- We will do another Tuckahoe Talk at the Tuckahoe Library in March (March 27th 1pm). Join in person or via live stream.
A few quick highlights and links for February and March:
Henrico County libraries continue to excel at the programming they offer. Below are two highlights for February and March:
February is Black History Month and they have a number of activities planned for Black History Month. There are events at specific libraries and events for adults and kids!
All Henrico Reads: This annual event attracted over 2000 people to the Henrico Sports and Events Center last year to meet the author and talk about the book everyone in the county was reading. The 2025 book is "The Paris Novel", and I look forward to discussing it with everyone at one of the many events at our Libraries!
Recreation and Parks: Most of us are looking forward to spring; but the winter guide still has a number of activities listed for fun things to do in the county. Sign-up for the Spring Guide or download the Henrico County Recreation and Parks app to keep up with activities in the community!
Lastly, Word on the Street: Curious to what Road Projects are being done when? Sign up for "Word on the Street" and you will be updated on road projects in just Tuckahoe (Or the entire county, whichever you choose). Sign up here to be added to the email distribution list from the County.
Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions, issues, suggestions you might have. I also encourage everyone to follow the Henrico County Government on social media.
